Course Description
The invisible contract that many educators have signed and use daily is one that centers European-American history as being the foundation of science, math, art, jurisprudence and modern civilization itself. This invisible contract immediately disadvantages all children and is particularly injurious to descendants of Africa and Latin America who have still standing pyramids that could not have been imagined nor built by those who did not have the scientific, astronomical and leadership capabilities to bring those structures into fruition. The idea of African and Arab(The Moors) conquerors taking Spain and building structures that also still stand today is not even given credence in our current historical narrative. It is a matter of historical fact backed by rigorous research using first and secondary sources that WE ARE ALL CONTRIBUTORS to human civilization. Which suggests that all of our children should be seen as inherently capable and given the same opportunities to shine.
WE ARE ALL CONTRIBUTORS is an Ethnic Studies curriculum that focuses on the unique contributions to humanity that each ethnic group's ancestors have made. These series of courses demonstrate we are all a part of one human race that has constantly borrowed and elevated ideas and knowledge from one another. No one ethnic group is solely responsible for the development of the world we share today. Many curricula focus on the oppression of Europeans, this curriculum does not do that and instead focuses first on the genius within us all.
Baayan Bakari
It all began in 1997 when Baayan Bakari became a Global Fellow awardee from the Echoing Green Foundation, joining other innovators such as Michelle Obama and the founders of Teach for America. He was given a grant to design his first curriculum for boys of color. It was called the Amafula Project. After 20 years of designing, instructing and innovating curriculum he developed the Khepera Curriculum Group and has engineered various curricula that has been taught at over 100 institutions. With over 30 years of ethnic studies experience his latest effort is We Are All Contributors. He assembled a diverse team of voices and has built a worldclass online platform that teachers and administrators are excited about.
The curriculum and this work comes with no political agenda and seeks only to share FACT BASED historical stories that have not been talked about in mainstream American literature or the overall narrative.
